Is Mullah Omar the Antichrist?

Is Mullah Mohammed Omar the Anti-Christ described in the Islamic holy Texts? Islam's holy books The Koran and The Hadiths, predict the coming of "Dajjal" (The Anti-Christ) like the Bible and Nostradamus' prophecies. First described are his physical descriptions as per Islamic texts. Next is an article on Mullah Mohammed Omar published in Time (MARCH 31, 1997 VOL. 149 NO. 13) and Omar's interview to BBC on 15th November 2001 in which he threatened the extinction of America. Please note the similarity between Omar and the Dajjal, including his being one-eyed. He even wore the sacred holy cloth of Prophet Mohammed. Could Mullah Mohammad Omar be the Dajjal or the Anti-Christ as described in various religious texts? I invite comments on this.

Narrated Ubadah ibn as-Samit:

The Prophet (peace_be_upon_him) said: I have told you so much about the Dajjal (Antichrist) that I am afraid you may not understand. The Antichrist is short, hen-toed, woolly-haired, one-eyed, an eye-sightless, and neither protruding nor deep-seated. If you are confused about him, know that your Lord is not one-eyed.

*Other descriptions of him are.....

There will be a thick fingernail-like object in his left eye.
He will have a wheatish complexion.
Dajjal will lay claim to prophethood.
He will then lay claim to Divinity.
He (the Dajjal) will be a young man with twisted, cropped hair, and a blind eye.

*There are some contradictions in various Hadiths as to which eye of his is blind.....

Ibn 'Umar(raa) reported that Allah's Messenger(sAas) made a mention of Dajjal in the presence of the people and said: "Allah is not one-eyed and behold that Dajjal is blind of the right eye and his eye would be like a floating grape." [Muslim]

Anas b. Malik(raa) reported that the Messenger of Allah(sAas) said: "Dajjal is blind of one eye and there is written between his eyes the word 'Kafr'. Then he spelled the word as K.F.R., which every Muslim would be able to read."

Hudhaifa(raa) reported that the Messenger of Allah(sAas) said: "Dajjal is blind of the left eye, with thick hair and there would be a garden and fire with him and his fire would be a garden and his garden would be fire." [Muslim]

Abu Huraira(raa) reported the Prophet(sAas) as saying: "May I not inform you about the Dajjal what no Apostle of Allah narrated to his people? He would be blind and he would bring along with him an image of Paradise and Hell-fire and I warn you as Nuh(Asws) warned his people." [Muslim]

One-eyed Mohammad Omar rules Afghanistan's Taliban with a firm hand and a strongbox of cash

Bearded and black-turbaned, the Commander of the Faithful squats on a simple bed in a narrow room inside the governor's mansion in Kandahar, southern Afghanistan. The paintings adorning the governor's residence have been ripped down; it is forbidden to depict Allah's creations. The Commander of the Faithful, a title bestowed on him by his Taliban followers and clerics, is an imposing figure. One of his eyes was blown away in a gunfight with Russian troops, and his eyelid is stitched shut. But the gaze from his good eye is hawk-like, unrelenting. Few among the grizzled Taliban warriors assembled in the room, all wearing identical black turbans and beards, can match Mullah Mohammad Omar's stare for long. To challenge him is akin to a sin, and when a smile ghosts across Omar's face, his lieutenants take it as a rare chance to laugh in the austere court of the Commander of the Faithful.

These days, most of Omar's visitors are military commanders who want their spiritual leader's blessing before launching the next, and probably decisive, battle in the Taliban militia's conquest of Afghanistan. Having swept through the besieged capital, Kabul, along with two-thirds of this country devastated by 19 years of war, the Taliban are now preparing a climactic assault on rebel strongholds in the jagged Hindu Kush mountains. In his first interview with a western publication, the stocky, 37-year-old Taliban leader says, "The time for a negotiated settlement is running out fast. We feel a military solution has better prospects right now." Omar's divine mission, he says, is to rid Afghanistan of its bandit warlords and restore a truly Islamic government. In Kandahar, this means collecting all the guns as well as stringing up confiscated TV sets and VCRs from lamposts, closing girls' schools and forcing men to grow beards. Many cultured Afghans have fled the Taliban's zealotry, yet others are willing to endure their excesses in exchange for peace. Omar concedes he is no great Islamic theologian--his studies were interrupted by the jihad, or holy war, against the Soviets in which he was wounded four times--but he and his followers are convinced that Allah is on their side. "Only if we deviate from Islam will we start losing," says Omar. The interview stops as a Taliban fighter comes forward bowing to him. The leader listens impassively to the man's whispered pleas, then reaches into a metal strongbox beside his bed. Using both hands, he scoops up a heap of banknotes for the soldier. Omar smiles, and the strongbox key vanishes inside his jacket. This is how he rules Taliban-controlled Afghanistan. The six-members on the council, which nominally oversees Kabul, are constantly rushing back to Kandahar for his orders.

Omar is one of the most improbable characters in Afghanistan's tortured history. The devout son of a poor farmer from Mewand district in southwest Afghanistan, he returned home after the Russian retreat to resume his studies in the village's mud-walled Koranic school. But after the Moscow-backed regime of Najibullah fell in April 1992, the country slid into lawlessness. Highwaymen preyed on travelers, while Kandahar was carved up among rival militias. One outrage that finally provoked Omar's wrath was a deadly tank battle in Kandahar between two militia commanders who fancied the same handsome boy. In 1994, Omar launched the Taliban to restore order. He recruited students from Koranic schools. As the Taliban advance across the country, critics accuse them of receiving military support from neighboring Pakistan. Omar denies this.

During the holy war against the Russians, Omar's favorite weapon was the rocket-propelled grenade. Today, it is faith. Shortly before the attack on Kabul last fall, Omar entered Kandahar's grand mosque and emerged with a holy cloth from the Prophet Mohammed, which he waved from a rooftop amid ecstatic Taliban warriors. This sacred relic had been only displayed a few times this century; its magic power was last invoked to end a cholera epidemic. Kabul fell effortlessly, and Omar's belief in his God-guided destiny swelled. He may have to haul out the object again: the Taliban are preparing an offensive against their northern enemies. Ex-communist General Abdul Rashid Dostum is massing hundreds of tanks to stop the approach. But while he has fuel and supplies, he is running low on loyalty. His commanders are restive, which may allow the Taliban to seize the area as easily as they took Kabul. When all of Afghanistan falls, Omar says, he'll move to Kabul. After that? "We have no intention of threatening any other country," he says. "We won't poke our noses elsewhere." Even then, few westerners are likely to see his face; he refuses to be photographed or filmed.

Mullah Omar: we will destroy U.S.

In an interview with the BBC, Taliban leader Mullah Mohammad Omar vowed to destroy the U.S. and said that a plan is currently being implemented to achieve this goal. The interview was conducted via satellite telephone from Kandahar.

Following are excerpts of the interview:

BBC: What do you think of the current situation in Afghanistan?

Omar: You (the BBC) and American puppet radios have created concern. But the current situation in Afghanistan is related to a bigger cause - that is the destruction of America...

BBC: What do you mean by the destruction of America? Do you have a concrete plan to implement this?

Omar: The plan is going ahead and, God willing, it is being implemented. But it is a huge task, which is beyond the will and comprehension of human beings. If God's help is with us, this will happen within a short period of time; keep in mind this prediction.

BBC: Osama Bin Laden has reportedly threatened that he would use nuclear, chemical or biological weapons against America. Is your threat related to his?

Omar: This is not a matter of weapons. We are hopeful for God's help. The real matter is the extinction of America. And, God willing, it (America) will fall to the ground.

BBC: During the past few days, you have lost control of several provinces. Are you hopeful to regain the lost territory?

Omar: We are hopeful that you will see the same kind of change that you saw (losing and regaining territory).

BBC: What was the reason for the fast retreat? Why have your troops fled the cities? Is it because you suffered heavily from the U.S. bombings or have your soldiers betrayed you?

Omar: I told you that it is related to the larger task....

BBC: Can you tell us which provinces are under your control at the moment?

Omar: We have four-five provinces. But it is not important how many provinces we have under our control. Once we did not have a single province, and then the time came when we had all the provinces, which we have lost in a week. So the numbers of the provinces are not important.

BBC: As your participation in the future government has already been ruled out - if some of your forces decide to join the future government as representatives of the Taliban in general or to moderate Taleban, will you oppose it?

Omar: There is no such thing in the Taliban. All Taliban are moderate. There are two things: extremism ("ifraat", or doing something to excess) and conservatism ("tafreet", or doing something insufficiently). So in that sense, we are all moderates - taking the middle path. The struggle for a broad-based government has been going on for the last 20 years, but nothing came of it. We will not accept a government of wrong-doers. We prefer death than to be a part of an evil government. I tell you, keep this in mind. This is my prediction. You believe it or not - it's up to you. But we will have to wait and see.
